3 Pre-Show Vocal Warm-ups

Take them with you on the go!

Today I answer an important question: Do I practice singing on the day have a show? Short answer: no.

Why is this? For the same reasons athletes do not train with heavy weights on the day they have a game, singers should adhere to this as well.

You should always be impoving. You always want to be in training. But on the day of a show you want to “show-off” just what you’ve been training for. There are many exercises you can do to stretch and warm up the voice so that you are ready to go for your gig.

In this video, I give you 3 highly effective warm ups that I do before a show. In fact, this video was taken on the day I had a show as well. There are other exersices you can do as well in addition to these but again, you don’t want to over do it when you’re performing that same day.

Have other exercises that work for you? I’d love to hear them. Leave them below along with any questions you may have.

I hope this helps singers! Have a great show!

Do You Hear That Sustain?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the urge to quote Spinal Tap. I promise there won’t be any others in the video.

What is a sus chord? Better yet, what is suspension in music and why is it important? Music is filled with tension and resolution. It’s what instills emotion in the listener and allows them to connect with the song and band/artist.

Suspension can happen within a chord itself, but can also occur from the melody of the voice or any instrument in a song due to the interaction with other notes embedded in the song.

In this video, I show you how to play sus 2 and sus 4 chords. If you still have a question or something to add, please do so in the comment section.
