Playing All 4 Paradiddle Variations on the Drum Kit

Welcome back drummers! As we close out drummers month, we end with our last video in this paradiddle series. I show you, with the help of my talented student, how to apply all 4 paradiddle variations on the drum set! This video brings it all together. You ready? Let’s do this!

If you missed my first few videos on Paradiddle’s, watch them below:

1. How to Play A Paradiddle

2. Drum kit Application for Paradiddles

3. Variation # 2

4. Variation # 3

5. Variation # 4

Just like you did in the previous video (#2) when I showed you how to play a paradiddle on the drum set, make sure you start slow here when learning to play all 4 in sequence. Once you’ve built up enough technique and confidence, then speed up.

Try placing one hand on the high hat and one hand on the snare. Build up speed. See if you can play quarter notes on the bass drum simultaneously. Next, learn the bass drum pattern in the second variation and apply that. Then you can take this variation and play it all over the set – on the ride and with fills.

I hope this video series has helped you. Still having trouble? Don’t hesitate to ask for help here or reach out via my website.

Just like how you learned to play the other paradiddles, make sure you start slow here when learning to play this variation. Once you’ve built up enough speed and are comfortable with this variation, take it to the drum kit.

Try placing one hand on the high hat and one hand on the snare. Build up speed. See if you can play quarter notes on the bass drum simultaneously. Then you can take this variation and play it all over the set – on the ride and with fills.

I hope this video helps.
